Rottal Estate is seeking to restore historically drained blanket bog by raising the water table and revegetating areas of peatland, through bare peat restoration and grip and ditch blocking. The estate is working closely with NatureScot's Peatland Action team as it works towards restoring over 300 ha of peatland.

Seventy ha of peatland have been restored since work began in 2020. This work was a first step in an ambitious programme to restore the estates' extensive peatland over a 5 year period.
