The foundations of the River South Esk Catchment Partnership were laid in 2005 with economic development and concern for salmonid species being key drivers at the time. In the proceeding 20 years, it has become a key environmental partnership in North East Scotland, continuously expanding its membership and the scope of its project delivery.

The first Catchment Management Plan was published in 2009 and a Catchment Management Plan Review was published in 2017. For further information please see here

The environment, community resilience and economic development and their interaction with the nature and climate crises, are steering the work of the Partnership. A strategic vision is provided through the catchment management process, whilst funding opportunities often shape short term project delivery.
