Montrose Basin supports a significant area of reedbed, which is a UK Priority Habitat. A 2.8 ha zone was prioritised for restoration work in 2024 and funded by the Nature Restoration Fund. A sequence of plots were cut, covering a quarter of the project area. This created diversity in age and structure of the reedbed habitat enabling specialist species to thrive. Ongoing monitoring is in place to identify impacts of the project and following the works, Bearded reedlings were observed at the site for the first time in 15 years.
