The aim of this catchment-wide project was to work with local land managers on a voluntary basis, to demonstrate how habitat improvements in the River South Esk could be combined with actions to help reduce flood risk. The project hoped to have benefits for biodiversity in rivers and on riverbanks, also helping land managers to reduce their channel and bank maintenance.
The project was funded by the Scottish Government and SEPA and complimented other catchment projects being delivered at that time, such as Pearls in Peril, and Reducing Diffuse Pollution.
The project involved three phases:
- Baseline study and scoping
- Options appraisal for restoration - Melgund Burn and Lemno Burn
- Design and delivery of measures
