The Brechin Flood Prevention Scheme includes:

  • Direct defences, including 1.5 km of flood embankments and flood walls;
  • Upgrades to existing surface water drainage system including the Denburn Culvert;
  • The installation of three submerged pump stations; and
  • Ecological enhancements in the Inch Park.

In October 2023, Storm Babet brought exceptional rainfall, with 150-200 mm of rain in parts of eastern Scotland. The 19th October 2023 was the wettest day the county of Angus has experienced since 1891. The town of Brechin sustained large scale flooding, the recovery from which is ongoing.
