Welcome to our blog. We will be using this blog to keep interested website visitors up-to-date on what is happening behind the scenes of the Catchment Partnership. Any information published on the blog can be seen as only the opinion of the blogger in question, rather than an official standpoint of the Partnership. So we might be light-hearted, or not. We might be very serious or we might be funny, but the writer is only representing him or herself rather than the Partnership as a whole. Feel free to comment on our blog articles, or indeed you can even apply for credentials to add your own blog, just drop us an email and we will give it careful consideration.

Thanks.

  • This very cold late spell in the winter of 2012/13 has put our hill farmers under huge pressure. Many upland farmers depend on a successful lambing season for their annual income. In a year when snow drifts have buried many lambs alive the farmers have had a poor start to the year. They are the people on whom we depend for looking after the upper catchment. The catchment partnership is acutely aware of the problems faced by farmers already suffering from low salaries.

SECMP's role is to work in partnership with everyone involved in managing the land and water courses inside the catchment watershed. Only by working together in a contect of mutual support can we hope to achieve all the demanding objectives which SECMP has set itself.

The Pearls in Peril project opens up new opportunities of improving the quality of flows and water in the catchment. The most important outcome will be to reduce excessive sediments clogging up the clean gravels and cobbles which provide habitats for the freshwater mussel and spawning for salmon and trout.
The partnership is thriving and is ready to take on these new challenges.

  • The South Esk Partnership has taken nearly eight years to incubate! But it is true to say that the partnership is now up and running and making a genuine contribution to the quality of life on the district. The strategy developed by SECMP includes conservation of all native species in the catchment and other factors that affect the lives and well being of people who live there or visit the area. While recreational and commercial fisheries are central to the work of the Partnership they are by no means exclusively so.
The beauty of the partnership is that it is light touch. It acts as a forum for the varied interests in the catchment. It includes private and public sectors on a national or local scale involvement basis. It encourages, coordinates, enables and catlayses but it doesn't make decisions or manage projects. In short, SECMP is a gathering of different people and organisations with one big strategic aim - to maximise the value of all aspects of the catchment on a sustainable basis.
I am very proud to have been involved with the Partnership from the day of its conception to now. I regard its achievements as a model of cooperation. Congratulations to all involved.

  • This website provides an excellent justification for managing the rural environment on a catchment basis. There is a compelling logic in a process that monitors and improves human activities and their impacts within the watershed. The South Esk partnership shows what can be achieved by working together in this way.

  • obviously like your web site but you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I in finding it very bothersome to tell the truth then again I'll definitely come back again.
